New UK version of GDPR to be introduced

New data laws to cut down paperwork for businesses and reduce cookie pops-up have been introduced by the UK government. The Data Protection and Digital Information Bill was first introduced last Summer and paused in September 2022 so ministers could engage in a co-design process with business leaders and data experts, ensuring that the new regime builds on the UK’s high standards for data protection and privacy and seeks to ensure data adequacy while moving away from the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach of the European Union’s GDPR. The Windsor Framework – new trading arrancements between Great Britain & Northern Ireland

Last month we saw the Windsor Framework, agreed by the Prime Minister and European Commission President, replacing the old Northern Ireland Protocol, providing a new legal and UK constitutional framework. The UK government states that “It delivers free-flowing trade in goods between Great Britain and Northern Ireland by removing any sense of the border in the Irish Sea for goods staying within the UK. The pandemic put many businesses off-track in the short and medium term, and with the additional uncertainty created by Brexit during the same timeframe, and now the Russian invasion of Ukraine adding to the mix, it is not surprising to learn that economic growth has slowed and that the UK economy is now only 1.5% above its February 2020 level.
